[RL - Neil - well I'm sure this won't be awkward]
[Well, Neil had called asking to meet after that last virus, and who had Lyle been to refuse him? After Neil's little trip to the past and Lyle's little trip into the future, Lyle was more than ready to chat to his brother in person for once. Especially since his trip to the future, while hazy, he remembered being depressing enough for it to be worrying, and especially since even though he was now in more regular contact with his twin than he'd been in the ten years before that, this sort of meeting up thing was still pretty rare.
... besides, he wanted to smooth things over a little since their last real conversation before the virus and the phone call had been a fight. Even if it had been a fight with the best intentions.
So there Lyle was in a quieter area of the city, waiting for his brother to get there on his space legs.]

[ But he was acutely aware of what he was doing, which was idle chatter to avoid what he was actually here to do. And this time there was no Setsuna here to chide him along, so he was going to have to make himself get down to business. As soon as he fought back the inner voice still telling him that this was an awful plan, and to just roll with what he'd said on the phone and pass this off as a regular socialisation trip. Probably at least some of this was showing in a restlessness in his stance, a tightness to his grin, regardless of his wishes. It hadn't been the best time for his self-control, lately. ]

[There's a bit more to the question than might first appear, because Lyle has noticed his brother's restlessness, and really, he's wondering what's up with him now. Was their last fight still weighing on Neil's mind too, or was it the trip back to a time when they'd lived in a happy family that was making him look so on edge? He started walking a little slowly, hoping Neil would get the hint and follow. No reason they couldn't have a conversation while walking.]

[ But that was his mouth running on autopilot while his brain was still working. A second later, he swallowed quietly. ] Actually, Lyle, speaking of up there - this wasn't exactly just a social call. [ Venturing a small, guilty smile ] There's actually... well, there's something I need to talk to you about.

i don't know why i suddenly changed brackets style in that last tag (unsure)
[ This smile is pretty damn weak, but at least it's more genuine than the last. ] So. Gesture of goodwill. If you still want to hear it, I'll fill you in.
you went with what your heart told you, bro :|b
... well, hell, he knows a peace offering when he sees one. And he does want to know. It's Neil, it's his brother, and he wants to know what exactly went down up there. So he nods.] Yeah. I want to know.
ARISE FROM THE DEAD, THIS THREAD
[ He's quiet for another moment. It should not feel as huge a step as it does. He knows what he says here shouldn't matter, but it does - it will - and it just feels so strange to be talking about it to Lyle. But he's made his choice, and if you can say one thing about Neil it's that once his mind is made up about something he damn well sticks to it.
So he swallows, and looks at Lyle again, serious-faced.]
So between the news reports they put out everywhere and your mysterious source, you've probably got some ideas already.
[ insert necromantic chant here ]
Yeah, you could say I drew a few conclusions.
[ you gonna elaborate, big bro? ]
the necromantic chant summoned forth WALL OF TEXT
[ Ideally, he'd been hoping to begin with a baseline of what Lyle already knew, or at least suspected. Not to construct a lie, he was still intent on coming clean, but... there were still parts he wanted to downplay, gloss over somewhat. Truthful and honest weren't always the exact same thing.
Sigh. Where to even begin...? Focus on the most immediate part of the story, is probably the best way. ] So the governments upgraded their suits pretty suddenly when they formed the Federation, and they came after us. Operation Fallen Angels, or something like that? Whatever it was called, it was...damn effective. That part you probably already know.
[A moment, again. His voice is quiet and heavy - even if he wasn't explaining it to Lyle of all people, this wouldn't be something he enjoyed reliving. His expression is somewhat far away, more drawn than he'd realise himself.] We were struggling to hold the line against that new firepower already, I won't lie. They had us outnumbered, this time in technology that basically matched our Gundams. Then, well, things got worse when there was an issue with our computer system.
[ The heaviness in his voice gets even more pronounced, and the beginnings of a thousand-yard stare are kicking in here. It was a bad time. ] Veda controlled everything, so our Gundams pretty much shut down in the middle of the battle. Luckily, Ms Sumeragi had set up a backup system, but it didn't take properly on Tieria's suit. The rest of us were back online, but he was still a sitting duck.
[Another pause. Even years later, the phantom memory of the injury makes his eye scars twinge painfully. There's no regret in his tone, though; it's clear that for all that it's a hard memory he wouldn't have done differently. ] An enemy went for him with a beam saber. There was nothing he could do to defend himself, but I could move and Dynames had shields. I took the hit.
[ He makes it sound like a conscious choice, but really, it had been almost instinct. Dynames' shields hadn't factored into his thought process in any real way, he'd started to move before his brain had really entered the equation: Tieria had been in severe danger, and he could - had to - help, that had been about the extent of it. But regardless, with that, a tiny, wry smile and a gesture at his eye. That enough elaboration, little bro?]
