[Well, some time during his previous wanderings in the forest Lyle happened to come across a dagger and he's now sitting pretty in some get-up that looks a little like this. He's also since discovered that he's suddenly a lot more agile - which explains why he's now sitting comfortably in the branches of one of the trees.

... or at least, he was until a group of archers suddenly started shooting at him, almost making him tumble from the tree in surprise. And they don't look very friendly.]

What the hell--?!

[okay, better plan. He'll just be shimmying down this tree really fast now and running away, with the sphere happily recording every detail of this misadventure. There is no shame in running from a group of archers when you are one man with a dagger!]

Okay, the running from people I've done before, but they didn't have arrows. [As if to illustrate his point, one of the aforementioned arrows whooshes over his right shoulder. Yep, he'll just be running until he finds a place to lose them or he finds something in these new clothes that'll help him get out of this situation!]

[Lyle's noticed this as well. For a start, the shouts of the mob are suddenly are lot fainter. Chancing a look back over the shoulder now.] Is it just me, or do they seem further away?

[Don't be like that. :|]

I think you're right. I wonder what made them stop....

[He looks up into the trees, not paying much mind to the slight movement in the branches. But for some reason, the dog that had been following him for a little while now was whimpering, so he crouches and gives him a reassuring pet.]

What's wrong with you?

[I'll be like that if I want to :|]

[He's a little surprised by that dog, there. Somehow he didn't notice it before.] Maybe he knows something we don't.

[It's not surprising he didn't notice the dog, since it's been pretty quiet so far.]

Maybe....

[Whatever was up with this place, the dog sure wasn't saying. And yet...] Do you get the feeling that we're not alone in here? It feels like something or someone's watching us.

I think I remember seeing this in a film once. "The trees have ears", or something. [but although he says it jokingly, he doesn't look as confident as normal...]

You mean that movie about the rings and elves and stuff?

[He's starting to look a little unsettled too as he starts examining the nearest tree.]

You don't really think they can hear us or anything, do you?

That's the one.

[looks sideways at him] Why don't you ask it?

[He was about to ask what kind of stupid idea that was, but really, it seemed the type of thing that was so stupid to do it was brilliant.]

Er... hey, you can't hear us or anything... can you?

[Was it his imagination or were some of those branches moving around? The wind definitely wasn't that strong today. then again, he wasn't sure if there was even a breeze.]

[looking up at those branches a tad suspiciously]

I don't know about you, but I'm gonna take that as a "yes."

I think I'll agree with you.

[continues watching but doesn't notice one of the trees behind them moving around]

[something very, very odd is going on here.]

Did you just hear something moving?

Yeah, it was coming from back-- [turns around and sees a tree bending over to get a better look at them] oh sweet merciful mother of God....

[... well. damn.]

... Right. That answers that question.

...So you can understand us? [is a bit stunned when the tree appears to nod] Er... right, well, I think we're going to be on our way then.

[reaches over and gives Lyle's sleeve a little tug as he starts walking off slowly]

[sleeve tugged! Turning to follow you, then...]

What's got you so spooked? [because he's not scared of the trees at all. nuh-uh.]

I'm not spooked, I thought we should just keep moving, is all. [because he's just as not afraid of the trees as him :|b]

Sure. Not spooked at all.

And that look on your face, you mean to say you weren't spooked either?

[Is that tree behind them looking to scoop them up? Maybe, maybe not~]

Did I ever say that I wasn't spooked?

[Well if it is, Lyle certainly hasn't noticed it. Oh dear~]

[He's about to grumble a little at him and tell him to stop smart-mouthing when the tree sweeps him off his feet. Now he looks a bit panicky as he starts yelling at it.]

H-hey! Put me down!

[That got his attention. And now he's turning round and looking up at the tree, looking pretty damn pissed at it]

Hey! [But that's about as far as he gets before the tree bends down and scoops him up as well, taking most of his breath with him.]

[Unable to reach his arrows, he continues struggling to break free, even though getting the tree to relax its grip would mean plummeting to almost certain death, or at least a number of broken bones.]

Look, er... we didn't mean to invade your forest, but just put us down and we'll leave.

[The tree didn't seem to listen to him as it started moving back out the way they had come in, back towards the mad archers.]

[Lyle isn't really struggling anymore, since he really doesn't have any desire to die from colossal fall. Not that dying from being taken back towards the archers is high on his list of things to do either.]

I don't think he's listening, Neil. [there's a pause, and then he adds as an afterthought] Or she. [How the hell is he supposed to tell if the tree's male or female?!]

[Eventually, he stops trying to fight his way out and watches as the tree gets closer and closer to the group of archers who were huddling together. The tree stops a little ways off and shifts Neil to a branch-y arm near Lyle. It bends over, coming face to face with them.]

What do you think it's going to do?

[also watching here, completely clueless]

I dunno, but as long as this doesn't end with either of us getting squashed or shot, I'll consider it a success. [he doesn't mention that he remembers that people in the film got squashed at some point by these giant trees. :|;;;]
